Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using antibiotic free chicken, pat dry. Cook until chicken reaches minimum internal temperature, 5-7 minutes per side.

  • If using sirloin steaks, pat dry. Cook until steak reaches desired doneness, or 4-6 minutes per side for medium/medium-well. Rest, 3 minutes. Steak thickness can vary; if you receive a thinner steak, we recommend checking for doneness sooner.

    Cook the Rice

    Bring a small pot with rice, 2 1/2 cups water, half the adobo seasoning (reserve remaining for salsa), and 1/2 tsp. salt to a boil.

    Once boiling, reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook until rice is tender, 15-18 minutes.

    Remove from burner and set aside.

    While rice cooks, continue recipe.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Drain and rinse beans in a colander/strainer.

    Cut plantains into 2" pieces on an angle.

    Trim and thinly slice green onions.

    Mince garlic.

    Pat chicken dry.

    Cook the Plantains

    Line a plate with a paper towel.

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 2 Tbsp. olive oil.

    Add plantains to hot pan. Stir occasionally until golden-brown, 2-3 minutes per side.

    Remove from burner. Transfer plantains to towel-lined plate and immediately season with 1/4 tsp. salt. Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean.

    While plantains cook, continue recipe.

    Make the Corn Salsa

    Place corn in a microwave-safe bowl.

    Microwave uncovered until heated through, 60-90 seconds.

    Carefully remove from microwave. Add beans, green onions, 2 tsp. olive oil, remaining adobo seasoning, 1/4 tsp. salt, and a pinch of pepper. Stir to combine and set aside. Have a little sous chef around? With supervision, have them help make the salsa.

    Cook Chicken and Finish Dish

    Return pan used to cook plantains to medium-high heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil. Add chicken and garlic salt to hot pan and cook until browned, 4-5 minutes.

    Add garlic and stir often until fragrant, 1-2 minutes.

    Add honey. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, remove from burner and stir in butter until melted and combined, 1-2 minutes.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping rice with chicken, plantains, and corn salsa. Bon appétit!
