Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F

If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes.

1 Cook the Vegetables
Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.
Add pepper and onion mix to hot pan. Stir occasionally until tender, 6-8 minutes. -
2 Add the Sausage and Spinach
Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.
Add sausage to hot pan. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.Add spinach in batches (don't overflow pan) and stir occasionally until wilted, 2-3 minutes. -
3 Add the Sauce
Add tomato sauce, pesto, and Italian seasoning to hot pan. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
Once simmering, evenly top with cheese. Cover and cook until cheese is melted, 2-3 minutes.Remove from burner.While sausage mixture cooks, continue recipe. -
4 Toast Rolls and Finish Dish
Place another large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil.
Working in batches, add rolls, cut sides down, to hot pan. Toast until slightly browned, 1-2 minutes.Replenish oil, if necessary.Remove from burner.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, filling roll with sausage mixture. Bon appétit!
