Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

1 Cook the Italian Sausage
Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.
Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.Add Italian sausage to hot pan. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.Remove from burner. Transfer sausage to a plate. Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean. -
2 Make the Pepperonata
Thinly slice pepperoni.
Return pan used to cook Italian sausage to medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.Add pepper and onion mix, pepperoni, garlic salt, and minced garlic and chili pepper (to taste) to hot pan. Stir occasionally until peppers and onions have softened, 10-12 minutes. -
3 Make the Sauce
Reduce heat to medium. Add tomato puree to hot pan and stir to combine.
Add crushed tomatoes and 1/4 cup water and bring to a simmer. -
4 Finish the Dish
Once simmering, add Italian sausage and pasta to hot pan and stir occasionally until coated and heated through, 3-5 minutes.
Remove from burner.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, garnishing pasta with cheese. Bon appétit!
