Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |

  • Ground Turkey 165° F |

    Cook the Italian Sausage

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add Italian sausage to hot pan. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Transfer sausage to a plate. Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean.

    Make the Pepperonata

    Thinly slice pepperoni.

    Return pan used to cook Italian sausage to medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add pepper and onion mix, pepperoni, garlic salt, and minced garlic and chili pepper (to taste) to hot pan. Stir occasionally until peppers and onions have softened, 10-12 minutes.

    Make the Sauce

    Reduce heat to medium. Add tomato puree to hot pan and stir to combine.

    Add crushed tomatoes and 1/4 cup water and bring to a simmer.

    Finish the Dish

    Once simmering, add Italian sausage and pasta to hot pan and stir occasionally until coated and heated through, 3-5 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, garnishing pasta with cheese. Bon appétit!
