Cooking Guidelines

If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

If using ground pork, break up until pork reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes.

1 Prepare the Ingredients
Peel and trim carrot.
Trim zucchini ends. Zucchini quantity may vary, but total weight will remain the same. Don't worry; recipe instructions are not impacted.Using a box grater, grate carrot and zucchini.Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. -
2 Cook the Sausage
Place a large oven-safe non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.
Add Italian sausage to hot pan. Break into smaller pieces until sausage has browned, 2-3 minutes. -
3 Cook the Filling
Add diced peppers, carrot, and zucchini to hot pan. Stir occasionally until tender and lightly browned, 4-6 minutes.
Stir in demi-glace, onion salt, and marinara. Bring to a simmer.Once simmering, stir occasionally until sauce is slightly thickened and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 3-4 minutes.Remove from burner. -
4 Add Potatoes and Finish Dish
Place mashed potatoes, sour cream, half the cheese (reserve remaining for garnish), and a pinch of salt in microwave-safe bowl. Stir vigorously to combine. Cover with a damp paper towel. Microwave covered until heated through, 2-3 minutes.
Carefully remove from microwave. Vigorously stir to combine.Evenly top filling in pan with mashed potatoes. Transfer pan to hot broiler.Broil until potatoes are lightly browned, 2-3 minutes.Don't text and broil! Keep an eye on oven as pie may burn easily under broiler.Carefully remove from broiler. Handle will be hot! Use an oven mitt.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, garnishing with remaining cheese. Bon appétit!
