- 1 Microwave
- 1 Microwave-Safe Plate
- 1 Colander/Strainer
Before You Cook
Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F

1 Prepare the Ingredients
Drain and rinse all beans in a colander/strainer. Kids want to help? With supervision, have them help prepare the beans.
Halve and peel onion. Cut halves into 1/4" dice. -
2 Cook the Vegetables
Place a large pot over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.
Add onions and carrots to hot pot. Stir often until slightly tender, 3-5 minutes. -
3 Add the Ground Pork
Add ground pork and 1/4 tsp. salt to hot pot. Break up meat until no pink remains and pork reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 5-7 minutes.
Drain any excess liquid from pot, if desired. -
4 Add the Broth
Stir 1/4 tsp. salt, chile and cumin rub, chili powder (to taste), onion salt, tomato puree, tomatoes, beans, and 2 1/2 cups water into hot pot until combined. Kids not a fan of extra heat? Feel free to skip/reduce the chili powder. Cover and bring to a simmer.
Once simmering, reduce heat to medium-low.Uncover and stir occasionally until vegetables are tender and chili is slightly thickened, 10-12 minutes. Remove from burner.While chili cooks, continue recipe. -
5 Crisp Bacon and Finish Dish
Line a microwave-safe plate with a paper towel.
Place bacon on towel-lined plate and spread into a single layer.Microwave until crisp, 1-2 minutes.Carefully remove from microwave.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping chili with crema and bacon. Bon appétit!
