Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |

    Start the Chowder

    Pat chicken dry. Place slow cooker liner in slow cooker, if desired. Fold top edges in before putting on lid. In a clean slow cooker, combine chicken, 3 cups water, chicken base, flour, garlic salt, and a pinch of pepper. Turn slow cooker on to low heat. Cover, and cook until chicken reaches a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees, 5 ½ hours.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    After 5 ½ hours, cut broccoli into bite-sized pieces. Coarsely crush crackers.

    Finish the Chowder

    Stir broccoli, cream cheese, half the cheddar cheese (reserve remaining for garnish), and chipotle pesto into slow coker until cream cheese is melted. Cover, and cook until broccoli is tender, 15 minutes.

    Finish the Dish

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping chowder with remaining cheddar cheese, sour cream, and crushed crackers. Bon appétit!
