Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. 

  • If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes.

    Cook the Italian Sausage

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add sausage to hot pan. Break up meat until no pink remains and pork reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 5-6 minutes.

    Add the Vegetables

    Add peppers and mushrooms to hot pan. Stir occasionally until vegetables are tender, 5-7 minutes.

    Add the Sauce

    Add half the garlic salt (reserve remaining for rolls), sugar, and tomato sauce to hot pan. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, remove from burner.

    While mixture cooks, continue recipe.

    Toast Rolls and Finish Dish

    Open rolls. Evenly top cut-sides with 2 tsp. olive oil and remaining garlic salt.

    Place another large non-stick pan over medium heat.

    Working in batches, add rolls, cut-sides down, to hot pan. Toast until slightly browned, 1-2 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, filling roll with sausage mixture and cheese. Bon appétit!
