Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F

If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes.

1 Cook the Italian Sausage
Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.
Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.Add sausage to hot pan. Break up meat until no pink remains and pork reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 5-6 minutes. -
2 Add the Vegetables
Add peppers and mushrooms to hot pan. Stir occasionally until vegetables are tender, 5-7 minutes.

3 Add the Sauce
Add half the garlic salt (reserve remaining for rolls), sugar, and tomato sauce to hot pan. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
Once simmering, remove from burner.While mixture cooks, continue recipe. -
4 Toast Rolls and Finish Dish
Open rolls. Evenly top cut-sides with 2 tsp. olive oil and remaining garlic salt.
Place another large non-stick pan over medium heat.Working in batches, add rolls, cut-sides down, to hot pan. Toast until slightly browned, 1-2 minutes.Remove from burner.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, filling roll with sausage mixture and cheese. Bon appétit!
