1 Prepare the Ingredients
Remove stems and seeds, and cut bell peppers into 1/4” dice.
Trim and thinly slice green onions on an angle, keeping white and green portions separate.Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. -
2 Cook the Sausage Mixture
Place a large oven-safe non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil. Add white portions of green onions, bell peppers, and Italian sausage to hot pan. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains, peppers are tender, and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.
Transfer peppers and sausage to a plate. Keep pan over medium heat. No need to wipe clean. -
3 Add the Sauce and Pasta
Add cream base, cream cheese, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/4 cup water to hot pan. Stir often until smooth, 1-2 minutes.
Add pesto and half the shredded cheese (reserve remaining for topping). Stir to combine.Add sausage mixture and pasta and stir occasionally until pasta is heated through, 3-4 minutes.Remove from burner. -
4 Add Topping and Broil Pasta
Top pasta with remaining shredded cheese and panko.
Transfer to hot broiler and broil until cheese melts and panko browns, 3-4 minutes.Don't text and broil! Keep an eye on oven as cheese and panko may burn easily under broiler.Carefully remove from oven. Pan handle will be hot! Use an oven mitt. -
5 Finish the Dish
