Before You Cook
Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F
Customize It Instructions

If using 20 oz. ground beef, follow same instructions as 10 oz. ground beef, forming four equally-sized patties and stacking two to serve.

If using ground turkey, cook until patties reach minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes per side.

1 Prepare Ingredients and Make Sauce
Peel and halve shallot. Slice thinly.
In a mixing bowl, combine ketchup, a pinch of garlic salt (reserve remaining for patties and shallots), and pesto (to taste). Set aside.In another mixing bowl, combine ground beef, half the remaining garlic salt (reserve remaining for shallots), and half the piri piri seasoning (use less if spice-averse; remaining is yours to use as you please!). Form mixture into two evenly-sized patties, about 5" in diameter. -
2 Toast the Buns
Place a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil. Add buns, cut-side down, to hot pan. Toast until golden-brown, 30-60 seconds per side.
Remove from burner. Transfer to a plate and set aside. Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean. -
3 Cook the Patties
Place another large non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add patties to hot, dry pan. Cook until lightly charred and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes per side.
Top patties with cheese. Cover and cook until cheese melts, 1-2 minutes.Remove from burner. Transfer patties to a plate and tent with foil.While patties cook, continue recipe. -
4 Cook the Shallots
Return pan used to toast buns to medium heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil. Add shallots and remaining garlic salt to hot pan. Stir occasionally until lightly browned, 3-4 minutes.
Remove from burner. Transfer shallots to a plate and tent with foil. Wipe pan clean and reserve. -
5 Cook Plantains and Finish Dish
Return pan used to cook shallots to medium heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil. Add plantains to hot pan. Stir occasionally until browned, 5-8 minutes.
Remove from burner.Plate dish as pictured on front of card, spreading sauce (to taste) on bottom bun and topping with patty, shallots, potato sticks, and top bun. Bon appétit!
