Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

    Start the Shepherd's Pie

    Spray provided tray with cooking spray.

    Drain pulled pork and separate pieces.

    In prepared tray, combine pulled pork, 1/4 cup water, half the BBQ sauce (reserve remaining for garnish), half the garlic salt (reserve remaining for mashed potatoes), and steak seasoning. Spread into a single layer.

    In a mixing bowl, add mashed potatoes, corn, and remaining garlic salt. Stir vigorously to combine.

    Evenly top pulled pork with mashed potato mixture.

    Bake uncovered in hot oven until pulled pork and mashed potatoes are heated through, 15-18 minutes.

    Carefully remove from oven.

    Add Cheese and Finish Shepherd's Pie

    Evenly top mashed potatoes with cheese. Tray will be hot! Use caution.

    Bake uncovered in hot oven until cheese is melted and slightly browned, 4-5 minutes.

    Carefully remove from oven.

    While pie bakes, continue recipe.

    Make Slaw and Finish Meal

    In another mixing bowl, combine slaw mix, dressing, and dried cranberries.

    To serve, top Shepherd's pie with remaining BBQ sauce and crispy onions. Bon appétit!
