Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |

  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • Meatlovers! If using protein, cook in a medium non-stick pan over medium heat with 1 tsp. olive oil. If using diced chicken breasts, pat dry and stir occasionally until chicken reaches minimum internal temperature, 5-7 minutes. If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. If using ground pork, break up until pork reaches minimum internal temperature, 5-7 minutes. If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 7-9 minutes. Add to chili as desired.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Remove stem, seeds, ribs, and cut bell pepper into 1/2" dice.

    Cut mushrooms into 1/4" slices.

    Drain and rinse beans.

    Start the Vegetables

    Place a medium pot over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add bell peppers, mushrooms, and a pinch of salt to hot pot. Stir occasionally until vegetables are tender, 6-8 minutes.

    Start the Chili

    Add chile and cumin rub, tomato puree, and flour to hot pot. Stir until well combined and no dry flour remains, 30-60 seconds.

    Finish the Chili

    Add mirepoix base, beans, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper, and 11/2 cups water to hot pot. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, stir occasionally until slightly thickened, 5-7 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    Finish the Dish

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping chili with cheese, sour cream, and tortilla strips. Bon appétit!
