Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |

  • Ground Turkey 165° F |

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Cut broccoli florets into bite-sized pieces. Combine ricotta, half the garlic pepper (reserve remaining for sauce), and 1 Tbsp. water in a mixing bowl. Set aside. Combine 1½ cups water with cornstarch in another mixing bowl. Set aside. Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.

    Cook the Sausage

    Place a large oven-safe non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tsp. olive oil and Italian sausage to hot pan. Break into smaller pieces until no pink remains and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Wipe pan clean and reserve.

    Cook the Broccoli

    Return pan used to cook sausage to medium heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil. Add broccoli, ¼ tsp. salt, and a pinch of pepper to hot pan and stir occasionally until tender, 5-7 minutes. Transfer to plate with sausage. Wipe pan clean and reserve.

    Make the Sauce

    Return pan used to cook sausage and broccoli to medium-low heat. Add alfredo sauce, tomatoes, remaining garlic pepper, ¼ tsp. salt, a pinch of pepper, and cornstarch mixture to hot pan. Bring to a simmer. Once simmering, stir constantly until thickened, 1-2 minutes. Remove from burner.

    Bake Pasta and Finish Dish

    Add sausage, broccoli, and pasta to sauce. Stir to combine. Gently press down in pan to form an even layer. Top with cheese. Bake in hot oven until edges are bubbling and cheese is golden brown, 20-25 minutes. Carefully remove tray from hot oven. Pan handle will be hot! Use an oven mitt.
