A note about serious food allergies
The name of this game is sweet and salty. They go together like gangbusters; ever had a dusting of salt on a chocolate chip cookie? Here, there's sweet deep fig and light sweet apple contrasting with that classic purveyor of salty goodness, prosciutto. All that contrast gets piled on flatbreads, coming together delightfully. This dinner is a land of contrasts and also a land of flavor.

You Will Need

Before You Cook
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |

Prepare the Ingredients
Peel apple, quarter, and remove core. Cut into ½" dice.
Halve and peel onion. Slice halves into thin strips.
Coarsely chop figs.
Place flatbreads directly on oven rack and bake in hot oven until lightly browned, 6-8 minutes.
Caramelize the Onions
Place 2 tsp. olive oil in a medium non-stick pan over medium heat.
Add onion to hot pan and stir occasionally until browned, 10-13 minutes. If pan becomes dry, add water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
Remove from burner. Add 1 Tbsp. water and sugar and stir to combine.
While onions cook, prepare prosciutto.
Cook the Prosciutto
Line a plate with a paper towel. Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Working in batches, add prosciutto to hot, dry pan in a single layer. Cook until crispy, 1-2 minutes per side. Transfer to towel-lined plate. When cool enough to handle, break into bite-sized pieces. Repeat with remaining prosciutto, if necessary.
Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean.
Cook Apples and Assemble Flatbreads
Return pan used to cook prosciutto to medium high heat. Add 1 tsp. olive oil and apples to pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until slightly tender, 4-5 minutes.
Remove from burner. Set aside.
Place flatbreads on prepared baking sheet and top with cheese, onions, prosciutto, cooked apples, and figs.
Bake in hot oven until flatbread edges are brown and crispy, 6-8 minutes.
Finish the Dish
Plate dish as pictured on front of card, drizzling with balsamic glaze. Bon appétit!
