Cooking Guidelines
To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:
- Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
- Seafood 145° F |
- Chicken 165° F |
- Ground Beef 160° F |
- Ground Turkey 165° F |
- Ground Pork 160° F

If using ground pork, break up until pork reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes.

If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes.

1 Make the Mashed Cauliflower Topping
Bring a medium pot with cauliflower covered by water to a boil.
Once boiling, cover, and cook until fork-tender, 12-15 minutes.Remove from burner. Drain cauliflower in a colander and return to pot. Mash until smooth. Add cream cheese, shredded cheese, 1/4 tsp. salt, and half the savory seasoning (reserve remaining for beef). Stir until smooth and creamy.While cauliflower cooks, continue recipe. -
2 Start the Filling
Place a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.
Add carrots to hot pan. Stir occasionally until carrots are slightly tender, 5-7 minutes. -
3 Finish the Filling
Add ground beef to hot pan with carrots. Break up meat until no pink remains and beef reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.
Carefully drain excess grease. Keep pan over medium heat.Add tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water, remaining savory seasoning, 1/4 tsp. salt, a pinch of pepper, and chicken base. Bring to a simmer.Once simmering, stir occasionally until sauce has slightly thickened, 2-3 minutes.Remove from burner. -
4 Assemble the Pie
Transfer beef mixture to prepared medium oven-safe casserole dish. Evenly top with mashed cauliflower topping.

5 Broil Pie and Finish Dish
Broil under hot broiler until mashed cauliflower topping is browned and bubbling, 2-5 minutes.
Don't text and broil! Keep an eye on oven as topping may burn easily under broiler.Carefully remove from broiler.Plate dish as pictured on front of card. Bon appétit!
