Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

    Start the Sausage and Peppers

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary. Break up into bite-sized pieces using hands.

    In provided tray, combine sausage, peppers, (If you receive a whole pepper, cut into 1/2" dice.) half the potato spice seasoning (reserve remaining for orzo), 2 tsp. olive oil, and a pinch of pepper. Spread into an even layer.

    Bake uncovered in hot oven, 10 minutes.

    Sausage will finish cooking in a later step.

    Add the Orzo

    Carefully remove tray from oven and drain any excess liquid.

    Add orzo, chicken base, remaining potato spice seasoning, and 1/4 cup water. Stir until combined and cover with foil.

    Bake the Meal

    Bake covered in hot oven until peppers are tender and sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 10-15 minutes.

    While meal bakes, crush crispy bell peppers in shipping bag.

    Carefully remove tray from oven and uncover.

    Stir cheese, softened plain butter, and softened Sicilian sauce (to taste) into orzo until melted and combined.

    To serve, top orzo with crushed crispy bell peppers. Bon appétit!
