Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. 

  • If using shrimp, pat dry. Cook until pink and shrimp reach minimum internal temperature, 2-3 minutes per side.

  • If using steak strips, pat dry, coarsely chop, then separate pieces. Stir occasionally until steak reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. Rest, 3 minutes.

    Cook the Peppers and Onions

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

    Add pepper and onion mix to hot pan. Stir occasionally until slightly tender, 4-6 minutes.

    If pan is dry, add water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, as needed.

    Add the Pork

    Add ground pork to hot pan. Break up meat until no pink remains and pork reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 5-7 minutes.

    Drain any excess liquid from pan. Pan will be hot! Use caution.

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasoning

    Stir 2/3 the minced garlic and parsley (reserve remaining for rice), tomatoes, 3/4 the chimichurri seasoning (reserve remaining for crema), and 1/2 tsp. salt into hot pan. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, remove from burner.

    While pork and vegetables cook, continue recipe.

    Heat Rice, Make Crema, and Finish Dish

    Carefully massage rice in bag to break up any clumps and remove from packaging.

    In a microwave-safe bowl, combine rice and remaining minced garlic and parsley. Microwave uncovered until heated through, 3-4 minutes.

    While rice microwaves, in a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, remaining chimichurri seasoning, a pinch of salt, and 1 Tbsp. water. Set aside.

    Carefully remove rice from microwave. Add lemon juice, softened butter, and 1/4 tsp. salt. Stir to combine and fluff rice with a fork.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping rice with pork and vegetables. Garnish with crema and cheese. Bon appétit!
