In Italian, “arrabbiata” means “angry,” but we promise this meal will be on its best behavior. Taking a traditional tomato sauce to another level, we’ve added a little extra heat with arrabbiata pesto and some texture from fresh red bell pepper. Believe us, you’ll be “arrabbiata” if you miss this.

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Remove stem, seeds, and ribs, and cut bell pepper into 1/2" strips.

    Mince garlic.

Pat shrimp dry. Season all over with 1/4 tsp. salt and a pinch of pepper.

  2. 2

Place a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.

Transfer shrimp to a plate. Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean.

  3. 3

    Cook Peppers and Make Sauce

Add 2 tsp. olive oil and bell pepper to hot pan. Stir occasionally until tender, 5-8 minutes.

Add flour and stir until no dry flour remains.

Add marinara, mirepoix base, and 1/4 cup water. Bring to a simmer.

Once simmering, stir occasionally until sauce thickens slightly, 2-3 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Shrimp and Finish Dish

Add shrimp and any accumulated juices and pasta to hot pan. Stir occasionally until combined and heated through, 1-2 minutes.

Remove from burner. Stir in butter and pesto (to taste) until combined.
