Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • If using ground beef, break up until beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. 

  • If using ground turkey, break up until turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 6-8 minutes. 

  • If using steak strips, pat dry, coarsely chop, then separate pieces. Stir occasionally until steak reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. Rest, 3 minutes.

    Cook the Zucchini

    Trim zucchini ends and cut into 1/4" slices on an angle. Zucchini quantity may vary, but total weight will remain the same. Don't worry; recipe instructions are not impacted.

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil. Add zucchini, garlic salt, and a pinch of pepper to hot pan. Stir occasionally until slightly browned and tender, 4-5 minutes.

    Remove from burner. Transfer zucchini to a plate. Reserve pan; no need to wipe clean.

    Cook the Sausage

    Trim and thinly slice green onions, keeping white and green portions separate.

    Remove Italian sausage from casing, if necessary.

    Return pan used to cook zucchini to medium-high heat. Add 1 tsp. olive oil, white portions of green onions, and sausage to hot pan. Stir occasionally until sausage reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees, 4-6 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    Start the Pasta

    Place a large pot over medium heat. Add butter to hot pot. Stir occasionally until melted, 30-60 seconds.

    Add flour and stir occasionally until no dry flour remains.

    Add cream base and 1/2 cup water. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, add a pinch of salt and stir occasionally until sauce is slightly thickened, 2-3 minutes.

    If too thick, add additional water, 1 tsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

    Finish Pasta and Finish Dish

    Add pasta, peas, cheese, zucchini, and sausage to hot pot. Stir occasionally until combined and pasta is heated through, 2-3 minutes.

    Remove from burner.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping pasta with green portions of green onions. Bon appétit!
