And here we have yet another iteration of comfort bowl of pasta, and why the heck not? After the last few years, we deserve all the comfort we can get. Fresh mushrooms and pungent garlic form the base of the sauce, along with tomato paste. Pasta gets stirred in, along with fresh spinach, and topped with cheese… how classic can you get! Classic, comfort, delicious…. You deserve it.

Before You Cook

Cooking Guidelines

To ensure food safety, the FDA recommends the following as minimum internal cooking temperatures:

  • Steak and Pork 145° F (rest cooked meat, 3 minutes) |
  • Seafood 145° F |
  • Chicken 165° F |
  • Ground Beef 160° F |
  • Ground Turkey 165° F |
  • Ground Pork 160° F

Customize It Instructions

  • Meatlovers! If using protein, pat dry and cook in a medium non-stick pan over medium heat with 1 tsp. olive oil. If using ground beef, break up beef until no pink remains and beef reaches minimum internal temperature, 4-6 minutes. If using ground turkey, break up turkey until no pink remains and turkey reaches minimum internal temperature, 7-9 minutes. Add to pasta as desired.

    Cook the Pasta

    Once water is boiling, add pasta and cook until al dente, 8-10 minutes.

    Reserve 1 cup pasta cooking water. Drain pasta in a colander. Set aside.

    While pasta cooks, prepare ingredients.

    Prepare the Ingredients

    Halve French roll, if necessary.

    Quarter mushrooms.

    Mince garlic.

    Start the Sauce

    Place a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 1 tsp. olive oil. Add mushrooms to hot pan. Stir occasionally until tender and lightly browned, 6-8 minutes.

    Add garlic and stir often until aromatic, 30-45 seconds.

    Add mirepoix base, tomato paste, 1/4 tsp. salt, a pinch of pepper, and half the pasta cooking water. Bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, stir occasionally until slightly thickened, 1-2 minutes.

    If too thick, add remaining pasta cooking water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

    While mushrooms cook, make garlic bread.

    Make the Garlic Bread

    Top cut sides of French roll evenly with butter and a pinch of salt.

    Place rolls, cut-side up, directly on oven rack in hot oven and toast until golden brown, 5-7 minutes.

    While garlic bread toasts, finish sauce.

    Finish Pasta and Finish Dish

    Add spinach and pasta to hot pan. Stir often until spinach wilts and pasta is evenly coated, 30-60 seconds.

    Remove from burner.

    Plate dish as pictured on front of card, topping pasta with cheese. Bon appétit!
